NAS election

2009-04-28 WASHINGTON — The National Academy of Sciences today announced the election of 72 new members and 18 foreign associates from 15 countries in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. This list includes Professor Glauco P Tocchini-Valentini, Director of the Istituto di Biologia Cellulare, National Research Council of Italy, Monterotondo Scalo (Italy), and Dr. Neal G. Copeland, Executive Director, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Proteos, Singapore. Professor Tocchini-Valentini is one of Europe’s leading experts in cell biology and studies genetic regulation of cell function, notably the intricate and complex role of RNA. He is also a great innovator in the field of mouse biology, contributing novel ways to consider how to most effectively phenotype genetically altered mice. Dr. Copeland is himself an expert in the field of mouse genetics and cancer, and for the last several years has served as the Chairman of the Panel of Scientific Academy.
